@CanesWTennis Trips to Palm Beach to Face FAU
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team play will play a non-conference match against Florida Atlantic Friday in Boca Raton, Fla.
No. 45 Miami is set to take on the Owls at noon at the FAU Tennis Complex in its first non-conference outing since Feb. 25.
The Hurricanes are 28-0 all-time against Florida Atlantic, their most wins against any opponent without a loss and their longest winning streak versus a single team.
Miami is 5-0 on the road against the Owls and won the teams’ last meeting, 7-0, on Jan. 11, 2013 in Boca Raton. The Hurricanes have not conceded a point to Florida Atlantic in the past 10 meetings, dating back to 2004, outscoring the Owls, 67-0.
Head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews‘ Hurricanes team features two players in the ITA national singles rankings, with junior Sinead Lohan at No. 11 and freshman Estela Perez-Somarriba at No. 33.
The Miami (4-9, 3-5 ACC) pair of Lohan and redshirt senior Maci Epstein is ranked No. 59 on the ITA’s doubles list.
Florida Atlantic heads into Friday’s match with an 11-8 (1-0 C-USA) record on the season and has won six matches in a row. The Owls are coached by Marcy Hora-Cava, who played at Miami from 1998-2002, overlapping with four of Yaroshuk-Tews’ first five years as a Miami coach, including her first at the helm.
In addition, Florida Atlantic assistant coach Caroline Wheelen, née Hora, was a standout at Miami, three times finishing ranked in ITA top 75, including twice in the top 30. Her final season, 1997-98, was Yaroshuk-Tews’ first as a Miami assistant coach.
