@CanesTrack Ready for Relay Weekend
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami track and field team will compete at two of the top outdoor meets in the United States this week at the 2017 Pepsi Florida Relays and the 2017 Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, presented by Spectrum.
The Canes will travel to Gainesville, Fla., from Thursday, March 30, through Saturday, April 1, at Percy Beard Track. Michelle Atherley will be the lone Cane in action in Austin, Texas, competing in the women’s heptathlon on Wednesday and Thursday at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
While Atherley will represent Miami in Texas, there are several Hurricanes looking to shine at Florida Relays.
NCAA indoor 400m champion Shakima Wimbley will open up her 2017 outdoor campaign at Florida Relays, competing in the 400m, as well as on Miami’s 4x200m and 4x400m relays. Miami’s women will also feature standout seniors Ebony Morrison and Aiyanna Stiverne in the 4x100m relay, with Morrison entered in the 100m hurdles and Stiverne also running the 4x400m relay.
Other Canes to watch on the women’s side at Florida Relays include sprinters Carolyn Brown, Brittny Ellis and Kristina Knott, hurdler Stefani Kerrison, distance runner Gabrielle Hesslau, throwers Karyna Armstrong, Sherry Lubin and Zakiya Rashid and jumpers Darlene Charles, Amy Taintor and Erika Voyzey.
Miami’s men will look to make some noise in the sprints at Florida Relays, with the talented trio of Brandon Taylor, Isaiah Taylor and Myles Valentine hoping to excel in the 100m. Henri Delauze is another Cane to watch, as the junior will run the 400m for the first time this season.
The Hurricane men also have throwers Carlos Mangum and Daniel Polinski, as well as multi-events athlete Andreas Christodoulou, looking to lead Miami in the field events. Hurdler McKinly Brown and distance runner Sean Grossman are two other Canes to watch on the men’s side.
Following this weekend’s action, the Canes will return to Coral Gables, Fla., to compete at their final home meet of the 2017 season, the Hurricane Alumni Invitational. Senior standouts Shakima Wimbley, Ebony Morrison, Aiyanna Stiverne and Carlos Mangum are among the Miami seniors that will be honored at their final home track meet as Hurricanes.
