Canes Set to Take on the Bucs

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis program will continue its 11-match home stretch Monday at 4 p.m., when it hosts East Tennessee State University at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.

Monday’s match is set to be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra with Luis Manrque and Alex Schwartz on the call HERE.

Miami (4-3, 0-1 ACC) heads into the match with senior Max Andrews and junior Piotr Lomacki representing the Canes in the ITA Rankings. Ranked No. 70 in the ITA singles poll, Lomacki enters the match with a 5-1 overall record in dual matches this spring. The native of Poland most recently defeated Florida Gulf Coast’s Oliver Landert, 3-6, 6-1, 3-0. Andrews joins the junior in the ITA doubles rankings, as the duo ranks No. 38 in the nation.

ETSU (2-5) features three players in the ITA singles rankings, including Robert Herrera at No. 75 nationally. Diego Nunez at No. 90 and David Biosca at No. 101 join him on the list.

Saturday, Feb. 25, Miami took down the Eagles, 4-3, by jumping out to an early 3-0 lead. At No. 2, Langmo defeated Ezequiel Cerrini, 6-2, 6-4, while Lomacki took down Landert. Leading the overall match 3-0, Miami dropped its matches on courts 3, 4 and 5, setting up a winner-take-all match at No. 6. Competing in his first singles dual match of the spring season, junior Nile Clark faced Sam Chaffin. After taking the opening set, 7-6 (7-5), Clark closed out the second set, 7-5, clinching the match for the Canes.

Next weekend the Hurricanes will host a pair of competitors, beginning with Boston University Friday, March 10 at 4 p.m. Miami will wrap up the weekend two days later, with its second ACC match of the season against No. 12 Georgia Tech Sunday at noon.
