Four @CanesFutbol Players on All-ACC Academic Team
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Four members of the University of Miami soccer team have been selected as All-ACC Academic Team honorees, as announced Tuesday by the conference.
Kristina Fisher, Ronnie Johnson and Phallon Tullis-Joyce all earned the first such distinctions of their careers, while Gracie Lachowecki became the sixth multi-year honoree in program history and first since 2010.
“I am very proud of our four players who earned Academic All-ACC honors,” Miami head coach Mary-Frances Monroe said. “Not only do they work hard on the soccer field, but they are just as competitive in the classroom. They are each very successful and bright.”
Fisher, a freshman forward from Jupiter, Fla., was named to the All-ACC Freshman Team this season after leading Miami with six assists and ranking second on the team in goals (seven) and points (20). An undeclared business major, Fisher has a 3.969 GPA, posting a perfect 4.0 mark in the fall, and has earned Provost’s Honor Roll (3.75+) accolades in both of her collegiate semesters.
A junior forward who hails from Oakville, Ont., Canada, Johnson netted seven goals this season, tied for the second-most on the team, and logged 17 points, good for third-most. Double-majoring in international finance and marketing along with entrepreneurship, Johnson sports a 3.62 overall GPA, logging a 3.75 total in the fall, has garnered Provost’s Honor Roll achievement three times.
Tullis-Joyce, a redshirt sophomore goalkeeper out of Shoreham, N.Y., set program records with just 16 goals allowed and a 0.84 goals against average in 19 starts this season, receiving multiple player of the week awards. A marine science/biology major with a 3.724 GPA, Tullis-Joyce notched an unblemished 4.0 mark in the fall and has picked up Provost’s Honor Roll distinction three times as a Hurricane.
A senior forward from Evansville, Ind., Lachowecki led Miami in both goals (11) and points (25) in 2016, en route to First Team All-ACC, NSCAA Second Team All-Southeast Region and NSCAA Scholar All-Region Second Team honors. Majoring in nursing, Lachowecki has a 3.613 cumulative GPA, registering a 3.507 figure in the fall, and has made the Dean’s List (3.5+) in six of her seven semesters.
With four players on the list, Miami tied for the fourth-most All-ACC Academic Team honorees in the conference. Additionally, it is the first time since 2013 multiple Hurricanes have been chosen and the first time since 2009 at least four Miami players were recognized.
