Swimming Caps Weekend at NC State GAC Invite
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Miami Hurricanes swimming team ended its run at the NC State GAC Invite Saturday, finishing the weekend with 467 points.
Competing without the team’s diving contingent, who spent the weekend at the House of Champions meet hosted by IUPUI in Indianapolis, the Hurricanes enjoyed a number of strong performances Sunday at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
Senior Cameron Davis opened the final day with a time of 17:03.82 in the 1650-yard freestyle event. Freshmen Claire McGinnis, who also competed in the event, finished in 17:14.91, while sophomore Maddie Emery posted a time of 17:29.32.
Sophomore Roxanne Yu, who earned a berth in the “C” final of the 200 back, posted a time of 2:00.82 – fifth-best in her heat. Sophomore Katie Sickinger qualified for the “D” final and touched the wall in 2:02.98.
Junior Julie Suarez scored points for Miami with a third-place finish in the “B” final of the 100 free, finishing in 49.58. Freshman Manon Viguier won the “D” final of the same event in a time of 50.28.
Senior Julia Schippert continued the positive momentum in the 200 breast with a time of 2:17.55, third-best in the “B” final. And senior Angela Algee won the “B” final of one of her best events, the 200 fly, with a time of 1:58.63.
Junior Jessica Hurley delivered a time of 2:02.64 in the “C” final of the 200 fly.
Miami’s top entry in the 400 free relay capped the weekend with a time of 3:22.04. Viguier, sophomore Ianire Casarin, Suarez and Algee finished eighth, while an entry comprised of freshman Iliana Oikonomou, sophomore Sydney Story, Yu and Davis finished in 3:30.92.
The Hurricanes swimmers will open their spring schedule on Jan. 7 with a home meet against Florida.
