Epstein Reaches ITA Southeast Regional Semifinals
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team finished up play Sunday at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships Presented by Oracle, held at Florida’s Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex.
Redshirt senior Maci Epstein earned a win in her first match to advance to the semifinals of the main draw, before having her impressive run stopped there.
Epstein, who had six victories over ranked players while at Virginia, began her day Sunday by notching her first such win as a Hurricane.
Facing a fellow No. 9-16 seed in the main draw quarterfinals in Georgia Tech’s Rasheeda McAdoo, Epstein picked up a 6-0, 7-5 win over the nation’s No. 77 player.
In the semifinals, Epstein took on yet another nationally-ranked player, as she met No. 89 Josie Kuhlman of Florida. Kuhlman, also seeded No. 9-16, earned a 6-4, 6-2 win to bring Epstein’s stellar showing in Gainesville to an end.
Junior Silvia Fuentes and sophomore Clara Tanielian were both eliminated in the back draw quarterfinals. Fuentes fell to Georgia State’s Kristin Rehse, 0-6, 2-6, and Tanielian dropped a 3-6, 1-6 decision versus Kenya Jones of Georgia Tech.
Miami finished play at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships Presented by Oracle with an overall record of 18-14, including a 15-10 record in singles. All tournament draws can be found HERE.
The fall season is now complete for eight of the nine Hurricanes. Junior Sinead Lohan, ranked fifth in the country, will compete at the elite USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, held Nov. 3-6 in Flushing, N.Y.
