Lomacki Advances to the Quarterfinals

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team returned to the courts Saturday at the 2016 ITA Southeast Regional Championships Presented by Oracle held at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center.

No. 31 Piotr Lomacki began the morning facing South Florida’s Alberto Barroso-Campos in the Round of 32. The native of Poland, seeded third, earned a straight-set victory, 6-3, 6-1.

Later in the day, Lomacki returned to the court to take on North Florida’s Jeffa Kecic in the Round of 16. The junior came back from a first-set defeat to take the match and advance to the quarterfinals, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.

In the quarterfinals Lomacki will take on Florida State’s Guy Iradukunda, Sunday at 10 a.m.

Also competing in the singles main draw, junior Christian Langmo opened his morning against Florida’s McCain Kessler in the Round of 32. The Boca Raton native came up short in the first set, 7-6(5), before falling in the second set, 6-2.

Seeded third overall in the doubles main draw, the duo of Lomacki and Max Andrews matched up against Jan Zielinski and Walker Duncan of Georgia in the Round of 16. The duo walked away victorious in a tiebreaker, 8-7 (4) to advance to Sunday’s quarterfinal. Lomacki and Andrews will face Florida’s Johannes Ingildsen and Alfredo Perez.

The winners of the singles and doubles draws will qualify for the 2016 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, considered the second leg of the collegiate Grand Slam, held Nov. 3-6 in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.

The singles main draw will continue Saturday at 8:30 a.m. with the doubles draw following, to begin around 3:00 p.m. Play will continue until the finals on Monday Oct. 24 starting at 9:00 a.m.
