Aljosa Piric Captains a Victory in Lithuania
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami men’s tennis head coach Aljosa Piric captained Bosnia and Herzegovina to a 5-0 shutout victory over Lithuania at the Davis Cup this weekend.
Damir Dzumhur opened up the weekend with a straight-set victory over Lukas Mugevicius 6-2, 6-2, 6-3. In the second match Mirza Basic defeated Laurynas Grigelis in four sets, 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-0), 3-6, 6-3.
In the third round, doubles teammates Basic and Tomislav Brkic sealed the match with a straight-set victory, 6-4, 6-4, 6-2, while Brkic and Nerman Fatic completed the shutout victory with their singles match victories this morning.
“It was great to be part of the victory against Lithuania, and help the team advance into a higher level of competition. However, I am very excited to get back to our team and get to work with our guys,” Piric explained. “We play our first team tournament this coming weekend at the University of Georgia, and I can’t wait to see our guys compete.”
Following the victory, Piric returns to coach the Hurricanes in Athens, Ga., Friday, Sept. 23, where the team will open the fall season at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships.
