Miami Falls in Second Round of ACC Championships

CARY, N.C. – The eighth-seeded University of Miami men’s tennis team (14-11, 5-7 ACC) came up short, 4-0, to the ninth-seeded Duke Blue Devils (15-12, 6-7 ACC) in the second round of the ACC Championships on Thursday afternoon at the Cary Tennis Park.

The Blue Devils opened the match with the doubles point, taking wins on court one and three. Jules Garot and Nacho Serra Sanchez fell first, 6-1, to Alexander Visser and Gerard Planelles Ripoll, before Duke’s No. 13 pair of Pedro Rodenas and Cooper Williams took down the No. 36 duo of Jakub Kroslak and Mehdi Sadoaui, 6-3, for the opening point.

Miami went into singles needing to rally for four points and started with three set one wins. Despite putting up a hard fight, the Blue Devils took three straight courts for the win.

On court two, No. 49 Williams secured the 6-1, 6-3 win over No. 73 Serra Sanchez, Kroslak fell 7-5, 6-4 to Ripoll on court three and Garot dropped court six, 7-6 (3), 6-4, to Saahith Jayaraman.

Miami will await its postseason fate at the NCAA Selection Show on Monday, April 27.
