Lomacki/Clark Defeat No. 10 Duo from Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team fell to No. 1 Virginia, 7-0, Sunday afternoon at the Snyder Tennis Center.

Today’s match marked a significant win for sophomore duo Nile Clark and Piotr Lomacki, as they downed 10th-ranked Mac Styslinger and Thai-Son Kwiatkowski, 7-5.

“UVa. is a great team and they were too powerful for us. They’re obviously playing with a lot of confidence.  Nile and Piotr had a great doubles win against the No. 10 team in the country,” said head coach Mario Rincon. “ We played some close sets in singles, but got overpowered in the second sets.”

The pair has racked up two wins over top 50 opponents this season alone. Previously, the two grabbed a 6-4 win at home on March 13 over No. 30 Jack Murray and Brayden Schnur of North Carolina.

In other doubles action on Sunday, at the top spot, No. 72 Max Andrews and Bernard Tefel  were defeated by No. 3 Ryan Shane And Luca Corinteli, 4-6.  On court 3, Kevin Bondar and Jesse Flores fell to Harrison Richmond and Jonathan Cornish, 1-6.

The Canes headed into singles play trailing the Cavaliers, 1-0.

Niclas Genovese saw a first-set win against Styslinger, but Genovese fell after Styslinger forced a third set, 6-3, 3-6, 0-1.
