Herrera Named All-American at NCAA Championships
ATLANTA — University of Miami diver Briadam Herrera picked up the second All-America honors of his budding career Thursday night at the 2016 NCAA Men’s Swimming & Diving Championships.
Herrera, who also picked up two gold medals at the 2016 ACC Swimming & Diving Championships, was a top-eight finisher in the 1-meter for the second straight year.
Competing in a loaded field at the McAuley Aquatic Center on the Georgia Tech campus, Herrera took fifth with a score of 427.90 to earn All-America recognition. He came back to finish seventh in the morning’s preliminary round with a score of 362.10.
The performance adds another impressive line to Herrera’s growing resume. The Havana, Cuba native, who also earned a pair of gold medals in his first trip to the ACC Swimming & Diving Championships as a freshman in 2015, won the 2015 AT&T USA Diving National Championship in the 1-meter.
He also won a bronze medal competing for Team USA at the 2015 World University Games in Gwangju, South Korea.
The 2016 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships continue Friday in Atlanta, with Herrera competing in the 3-meter – the same event former Hurricane Sam Dorman won with an NCAA-record score in 2015.
