@CanesTrack Ready for Hurricane Twilight Meet

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami track and field program will compete under the lights at the Hurricane Twilight Invitational.

The Hurricanes will host LSU, Cincinnati, FAU, FIU and Bethune-Cookman on Friday at Cobb Stadium. The field at the Hurricane Twilight Invitational features competitors from three Top 25 teams: the 21st-ranked Hurricane women’s team, LSU’s top ranked women’s team and LSU’s fourth-ranked men’s team.

The action begins at 12:30 p.m. with the javelin throw. Running events begin at 6 p.m. with the women’s 4x100m relay and the meet will conclude at 8:55 p.m. with the men’s 4x400m relay.

The Canes will have several outstanding student-athletes competing this weekend at the Hurricane Twilight Invitational. The No. 21 Hurricanes women will be led by reigning ACC Performer of the Week Aiyanna Stiverne, whom posted the fastest 200m time in the ACC at least week’s Hurricane Invitational.

NCAA Indoor Championships qualifier Ebony Morrison is another headliner on the track for Miami’s women, while indoor All-Americans Dakota Dailey-Harris (high jump) and Alysha Newman (pole vault) and standout throwers Tiffany Okieme and Precious Ogunleye will lead the Canes in the field events.

The Hurricane men are strong in the field events, led by throwers Gian Piero Ragonesi, Carlos Mangum and Isaiah Simmons and jumpers John-Patrick Friday and Innocent Jacob. At least week’s Hurricane Invitational, Mangum improved on his school record mark in the hammer throw (63.58m) and Ragonesi won both the shot put and discus. Friday and Jacob were key contributors for the Canes at the ACC Indoor Championships, scoring points for Miami’s team score.

On the track, sophomore sprinter Henri Delauze will compete in the 400m and freshman sprinter Isaiah Taylor will make his outdoor debut in the 100m.

The Hurricane Twilight Invitational will be broadcast live on ESPN3 from 6 p.m. ET to 9 p.m. ET. The broadcast will be the first Hurricanes home meet televised in school history and it will have one of the greatest Hurricanes in history on the call. Olympic gold medalist, 2004 NCAA 100m champion and UM Sports Hall of Fame inductee Lauryn Williams will return to her alma mater to provide analysis at the Hurricane Twilight Invitational.
