CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami track and field program will compete at two different meets this weekend: Tyson Invitational and LSU High Performance Meet.

The No. 15 Hurricanes have a split squad this weekend, with most sprinters and hurdlers heading to the Tyson Invitational in Arkansas and the throwers and some jumpers heading to Louisiana for the LSU High Performance Meet.

Three-time 2016 ACC Women’s Track Performer of the Week Shakima Wimbley leads the Hurricane women into Fayetteville, Ark., for the Tyson Invitational. Wimbley, who is set to compete in the 200m and the 4x400m relay, heads into the Tyson invitational with 200m time of 23.33 seconds that leads the ACC and ranks 9th in the NCAA.

Ebony Morrison is another Hurricane to watch at Tyson, as the junior heads to Arkansas fresh off running a personal-best 8.22 to win the women’s 60m hurdles at the Armory Track Invitational. Morrison’s time ranks fifth in UM history and 13th in the NCAA.

Alysha Newman enters the Tyson Invitational fresh off a school record and personal-best mark of 4.50m in the women’s pole vault at the Armory Track Invitational. Newman, who ranks second in the NCAA in the women’s pole vault, will join high jumper Dakota Dailey-Harris representing the Hurricane women in the field events at the Tyson Invitational.

On the men’s side at Tyson, freshman sprinter Myles Valentine will look to build off his strong performance at The Armory. Valentine, who finished fourth in the men’s 60m, ran a personal-best time of 6.72 seconds during the semifinals that ranks third in the ACC, 33rd in the NCAA and ties him for second in UM history with Miami football and track standout Santana Moss.

Jumpers David Njoku and John-Patrick Friday will also look to make some noise at Tyson. Njoku ranks seventh in the ACC in the high jump at 2.09m and Friday opened up his season at The Armory with 15.32m triple jump that ranks second in the ACC.

The Tyson Invitational will be broadcast on SEC Network+. Friday’s broadcast is from 6 to 8 p.m. ET and can be viewed here, while Saturday’s action will be streamed from 3:30 to 6 p.m. ET and can be viewed here.

In addition to the action Friday and Saturday at the Tyson Invitational, several talented Hurricanes are set to compete Saturday at LSU.

Throwers Precious Ogunleye and Tiffany Okieme lead the way on the women’s side. Ogunleye won the women’s weight throw at The Armory with a personal-best mark of 21.27m that ranks fifth in the NCAA this year. Okieme currently is in the Top 50 in the country in both the shot put and weight throw, ranking 32nd in the shot put at 16.02m and 12th in the weight throw at 20.60m.

On the men’s side, Armory Track Invitational weight throw champion Carlos Mangum will look to continue his success, while senior Isaiah Simmons is set to compete for the first time in 2016. Mangum ranks 46th in the NCAA in the weight throw, while Simmons is a two-time Field MVP at the ACC Outdoor Championships, winning four ACC titles.

Following this weekend’s action, the Hurricanes will spend a week training for the ACC Indoor Championships on Feb. 25-27 in Boston.
