Manrique Guides Rojer to ATP Doubles Title
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Former University of Miami tennis standout Luis Fernando Manrique coached No. 3 doubles player Jean-Julien Rojer to the ATP World Tour Doubles Championship this fall.
Rojer and his Romanian partner Horia Tecau were seeded second in the ATP finals in late November. The duo defeated top-seeded Americans Bob and Mike Bryan 6-4, 6-4 in the ATP semi-finals, then topped Indian Rohan Bopanna and Romanian Florin Mergea 6-4, 6-3 to clinch the title.
In 2013 Manrique coached Jean-Julien Roger to a No. 8 ranking in doubles, making him one of the youngest players in the top 10. Earlier this year, Rojer and Tecau defeated Jamie Murray and John Peers 7-6(5), 6-4, 6-4 to win the Wimbledon Gentlemen’s Doubles Championship. Currently Rojer is ranked No.3 in doubles and steadily climbing the ATP rankings.
Manrique, from Key Biscayne, Fla., played for Miami from 2002 to 2005. During his professional career, Manrique was ranked as high as No. 447 in the world.
