Swimming Opens Trip to Ohio State Invite
COLUMBUS, Ohio — The University of Miami swimming team wrapped up its first day at the Ohio State Invitational in fifth place, finishing with 128 points after the first night of the three-day invitational.
Battling against a talented field including the host Buckeyes, Florida, Kentucky and Washington State, Miami had a number of impressive performances at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.
Miami’s top entry in the 200 free relay, comprised of sophomore Rebeka Repman, junior Angela Algee, senior My Fridell and sophomore Julie Suarez, delivered a time of 1:33.02 to finish in fourth to open the night’s finals.
After a ninth-place finish from junior Christina Leander in the 200 IM (2:02.98), two Hurricanes placed in the top seven finishers in the 50 freestyle – Algee, who took fifth (23.25) and Repman in seventh (23.37).
Fridell just missed out on points with a seventh-place finish in the “B” final of the 50 free (23.73), while freshman Sydney Story took third in the “C” final (24.20).
Miami’s 400 medley relay team, featuring Leander, Algee, Suarez and junior Julia Schippert, finished in seventh with a time of 3:43.46.
Sophomore Ksenia Yuskova scored points for Miami with a 10th-place finish in the 500 freestyle.
The Ohio State Invitational continues Saturday.
