Tefel & Bondar Win Doubles Championship
FT. MYERS, Fla. – University of Miami junior Bernard Tefel and sophomore Kevin Bondar won the championship of Flight 2 doubles Sunday morning at the Bedford Cup, State of Florida Championships in Ft. Myers, Fla.
Tefel and Bondar took down Eduardo Alfonzo and Chris Perrigan of host school Florida Gulf Coast, 8-4, to win the championship match. After a tough 8-7 (7-3) opening round win on Saturday morning over FAMU’s Karlyn Small and Carlos Waitman, the Miami duo cruised through the quarterfinals with an 8-1 win over FGCU’s Sam Chaffin and Ricky Ventura. The semifinals brought a bit more of a test, but the Canes won, 8-4, over Laurynas Antropikas and Simon Julin of Stetson to set up Sunday’s championship match.
The Canes are scheduled for three events in October, beginning with the ITA All-American Championships (Oct. 3-11), followed by the ITA Regional Championships (Oct. 16-19) and the FGCU Invitational (Oct. 30-Nov. 1).
