Ragonesi Reps @MiamiTrack, Italy at Euro U23s
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami’s Gian Piero Ragonesi donned Italy’s famous azzurro this weekend, competing at the 2015 European Under-23 Championships.
The Hurricanes’ talented thrower competed in the men’s discus, posting a mark of 52.63m. Ragonesi is the fourth Hurricane to compete this summer following the collegiate season. Shakima Wimbley and Amy Taintor competed at the USA Championships, with Wimbley earning a spot on Team USA for the 2015 Pan Am Games, and Alysha Newman placed second in the women’s pole vault at the 2015 Canadian Championships.
Ragonesi represented the Hurricanes at the 2015 NCAA East Preliminary, competing in both the men’s shot put and men’s discus. The sophomore also scored for the Canes at the 2015 ACC Outdoor Championships, placing seventh in the men’s shot put. Ragonesi is also an excellent student- earning All-ACC Academic honors for the 2015 indoor season.
In just two years at Miami, Ragonesi has proven to be one of the top throwers in program history. A versatile and gifted thrower, Ragonesi ranks second in UM history in the men’s indoor shot put and third in the men’s weight throw. Check the outdoor school records and you will find Ragonesi ranks second in discus and third in both the shot put and hammer throw.
After two solid seasons in Coral Gables, the rising junior will look to continue his success in Miami’s orange and green in 2016.
