Q&A with @CanesWBB Freshman Zada Williams
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami freshman Zada Williams moved into her dorm room Sunday, June 28 and began taking summer classes the next day.
With a week-plus at Miami in the rearview mirror, the 6-foot-2 forward/center from Lake Wales, Fla. sat down with HurricaneSports.com for a quick question and answer session . . .
Q: What has it been like for you so far?
A: It’s been pretty good. English [class] has been kind of tough. Homework every night is not what I’m used to, but I’m getting used to it.
Q: What has been the best part?
A: Getting to know my teammates. They’re really cool and welcoming, which is good.
Q: Anyone in particular who has taken you under her wing and shown you around?
A: Shaneese [Bailey], and mostly because she is my roommate, so we go everywhere together.
Q: Is it nice rooming with someone who—obviously not at Miami, but has experience in college already?
A: Yeah, she has given a lot of advice to help throughout my college years, so yeah.
Q: How does your first week compare with what you would have expected it to have been to start?
A: I wasn’t expecting it to be as hectic, but I guess I’m kind of getting the hang of it. So, hopefully with the weeks to come I’ll be able to manage it for the fall.
Q: What made you pick Miami in the first place?
A: They were really family-oriented. I have a really big family, so just their team connection and all the coaches really care about you and not just want you to play on their team. They actually care about you as a person. So, that was good.
Q: What are you most excited for about being in college?
A: The basketball season. I think we have a really good chance of going far this year. They did really well last year, so hopefully we can add a little bit on this year.
Q: Anything in particular you’re working on this summer basketball-wise, personally?
A: Yeah, on the weekends when we don’t have anything necessarily, I’m going and putting up a few shots. I’m not like one of those centers who will post you up. I’m more [one who] will take you out and try to shoot on you. So, just working on that shot.
Q: Do you know what you’re going to major in yet?
A: No, but I have an idea. Probably sports medicine or something like that.
