Alysha Newman Second at Canadian Nationals

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – While most Hurricanes fans spent the weekend grilling burgers and watching fireworks, the University of Miami’s Alysha Newman was competing at the 2015 Canadian Track and Field Championships.

Newman, who represented Miami at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in mid-June, tied for second in the women’s senior pole vault at Canadian Nationals with a mark of 4.20m.

A second team outdoor All-American in 2015, Newman placed ninth in the pole vault at the 2015 NCAA Outdoor Championships. The Delaware, Ontario, native was a silver medalist in the pole vault at the 2015 ACC Outdoor Championships, earning first team All-ACC Honors. Newman is the school record holder in both the indoor and outdoor pole vault, with marks of 4.35m and 4.41m, respectively.

The 2015 Canadian Track and Field Championships were held at the University of Alberta Foote Field in Edmonton from July 2-5. Known as Tracktown Canada, Edmonton was home to the first ever Canadian Junior, Senior and Para Track and Field Championships in 2015 and will host the event again in 2016.
