Browns Draft Johnson in the Third Round

CHICAGO – Miami Hurricanes running back Duke Johnson was selected with the 77th overall draft pick by the Cleveland Browns Friday night in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft.
 
Johnson is the third Miami running back to be selected in the NFL Draft in the last four years. Johnson’s selection as the 77th overall pick is the highest a Miami running back has been taken since 2006 when the Chicago Bears took Devin Hester with the 57th overall pick.
 
Johnson is the fifth Hurricane to be selected in this year’s NFL Draft.
 
Earlier this evening, linebacker Denzel Perryman was drafted with the 48th overall pick in the second round by the San Diego Chargers. Tight end Clive Walford followed in the third round after the Oakland Raiders selected him with the 68th overall pick.
 
On day one of the NFL Draft, Miami offensive lineman Ereck Flowers was selected with the ninth overall pick by the New York Giants. Miami wide receiver Phillip Dorsett followed later in the first round as he was selected with the 29th overall pick.
 
Johnson returned to the field in 2014 following a season-ending injury in 2013 and concluded one of the finest careers in school history, as he became Miami’s all-time leading rusher with 3,519 yards. As a junior, Johnson posted single season career highs in rushing yards (1,652) and touchdowns (10).
 
Following the year, Johnson was selected to the 2014 All-ACC First Team selection by both the ACSMA and ACC coaches. His 2,070 all-purpose yards this past season were a personal best. Johnson ended his career with a 132-yard performance against South Carolina in the Duck Commander Independence Bowl – marking his 14th career 100-yard rushing game, tying him with Miami greats Edgerrin James and Clinton Portis for the most all-time.
