Raiders Draft Walford in the Third Round
CHICAGO – Miami Hurricanes tight end Clive Walford was selected with the 68th overall draft pick by the Oakland Raiders Friday night in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft.
Walford is the first Miami tight end to be selected in the NFL Draft since the Oakland Raiders selected Richard Gordon in 2011. Walford’s selection as the 68th overall pick is the highest selection for a Miami tight since 2007 when the Chicago Bears took Greg Olsen 31st overall.
Walford is the fourth Hurricane to be selected in this year’s NFL Draft.
Earlier this evening this linebacker Denzel Perryman was drafted with the 48th overall pick in the second round by the San Diego Chargers.
On day one of the NFL Draft, Miami offensive lineman Ereck Flowers was selected with the ninth overall pick by the New York Giants. Miami wide receiver Phillip Dorsett followed later in the first round as he was selected with the 29th overall pick.
A finalist for the Mackey Award honoring the nation’s top tight end, Walford eclipsed the top career totals of any Hurricane tight end in program history after a standout career.
Walford caught 44 passes for 676 yards with seven touchdowns in his final season, earning All-ACC second-team honors from ASCMA and ACC coaches. He also was one of four Hurricanes to earn a spot in the 2015 Reese’s Senior Bowl.
