Colts Draft Dorsett in First Round
CHICAGO – Miami Hurricanes wide receiver Phillip Dorsett was selected with the 29th overall draft pick by the Indianapolis Colts on Thursday night of the 2015 NFL Draft.
Dorsett is the second Hurricane to be selected in the first round of the NFL Draft. This year’s draft marks the first time since the 2007 NFL Draft that two Hurricanes were taken in the opening round.
Earlier this evening, Miami offensive lineman Ereck Flowers was selected with the ninth overall pick by the New York Giants.
The Fort Lauderdale, Fla. native is the first Hurricane wide receiver to be selected in the first round of the NFL Draft since new Colts teammate Andre Johnson was taken with the third overall pick by the Houston Texans in 2003.
He also becomes the 28th Miami player selected in the first round since 2000. Miami’s 28 first round selections since 2000 are the most among all NCAA teams.
Dorsett concluded his Miami career after he earned All-ACC Second Team honors as a senior. In 2014, he started in all of the Hurricanes’ 13 games and led the team in receiving yards (871) and touchdowns (10).
Dorsett established himself as one of college football’s most-explosive receivers as he averaged a team-best 24.2 yards per catch, which ranked second in the NCAA. He finished his career with 2,132 yards and 17 touchdowns. He is one of just seven wide receivers in school history with 2,000 yards-or-more.
Coverage of the 2015 NFL Draft continues tomorrow evening at 7 p.m. with rounds two and three and will be aired on ESPN and NFL Network.
