@MiamiTrack Heads to UF for Tom Jones Meet

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Miami track and field program heads north to the University of Florida to compete in the 2015 Tom Jones Memorial Invitational.

The Tom Jones Memorial Invitational will feature several schools from throughout the State of Florida, as well as select universities across the country and a bevy of talented unattached athletes. Action begins at 11 a.m. Friday with the men’s hammer, women’s discus, women’s pole vault and women’s long jump. The running events open at 1 p.m. with the women’s 4x100m relay, while the men’s 4x400m relay will close the meet at 6:20 p.m.

The Hurricanes will feature several outstanding athletes this weekend, including ACC Performers of the Week Shakima Wimbley and Carlos Mangum. In her last time on Percy Beard Track, Wimbley ran a 51.50 in the 400m, tying for what was then the fastest 400m time in the country. Mangum also excelled in an earlier trip to Gainesville, posting a mark of 60.74m in the hammer throw.

The Canes also will have standouts Henri Delauze, Christian Cook and John-Patrick Friday in action on the men’s side, while Jamika Glades, Kelsey Balkwill, Lea Johnson, Precious Ogunleye, Tiffany Okieme and Alysha Newman are expected to thrive for the Hurricane women.

Following this weekend’s trip to Gainesville, Miami will head to LSU on May 2 for their final meet before the ACC Outdoor Championships on May 14-16. The stakes only get higher after the conference meet as Miami will head to the NCAA East Preliminary and the NCAA Championships to close out a stellar 2015 outdoor season.
