Canes Hold Career and Internship Fair
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Over 100 University of Miami student-athletes took part in the Hurricanes Career and Internship Fair Monday night at the Knight Gymnasium.
The Hurricanes’ office of Student Athlete Development partnered with the Toppel Career Center as they played host to the inaugural event.
“This was such a special opportunity for our student athletes to spend some time interacting with some of the area’s top employers,” said Director of Student-Athlete Development Shirelle Jackson. “With the type of turnout we had tonight, I think it’s pretty clear that our young men and women are serious about their careers after college.”
Over 20 South Florida companies and offices were in attendance, including representatives from the Miami Dolphins, the UM Law School, Primerica, Teach for America and Mass Mutual-South Florida.
“The career fair was such a great way for student-athletes to get out of their comfort zones and help us prepare for life after college,” said Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Vice-President and track and field athlete Alexis Wright. “Having everyone come together for an event like this was so unique and beneficial to us all.”
The event also served as a networking event, which allowed Miami student-athletes the opportunity to gain career advice as graduation approaches.
