Jekiri Named to ACSMA All-ACC Defensive Team
University of Miami forward Tonye Jekiri has been named to the 2015 ACSMA All-Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Team, the league announced March 8.
Jekiri was also second in voting for Most Improved and third for Defensive Player of the Year.
The native of Port Harcourt, Nigeria, led the ACC with 10.9 rebounds per game, and averaged 1.3 blocks per game in league play. Jekiri notched multiple blocks in six ACC games, and grabbed double-digit defensive rebounds in three outings. He also had a steal in 10 outings, posting 0.8 steals per game.
From his sophomore to junior season, he improved his rebounding by 4.8 per game, a 91.8 percent increase, and 0.5 blocks per outing, a 55.6 percent increase. Jekiri also improved offensively, upping his field goal shooting 8.2 percent (19.2% increase), free throws 19.2 percent (37.1% increase) and points 5.3 per game (129.3% increase).
The 7-foot junior led the ACC with nine double-doubles in 18 games, notching 9.4 points and 10.9 rebounds per game. He hit 50.8 percent of his shots from the field and 70.9 percent at the line.
