Mullings and Leacock Join @MiamiTrack

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Miami director of track and field/cross country Amy Deem announced the addition of two newcomers to the Hurricane track and field program.

Freshmen Breon Mullings and Trishelle Leacock come from Trinidad and Tobago to Coral Gables just in time for the 2015 season. Mullings will be a sprinter for the men’s team, while Leacock will join the women’s sprinters in orange and green.

“We are excited that Trishelle and Breon are joining the Hurricane family,” Miami director of track and field/cross country Amy Deem said. “They bring a strong work ethic both in academics and athletics and we believe they will be very successful in our program.”

Mullings competed in the preliminaries at the 2014 IAAF World Junior Championships as a member of Trinidad and Tobago’s 4x400m relay. A talented sprinter that has competed internationally, he helped Trinidad and Tobago finish second in the 4x100m relay at the 2013 CARIFTA Games and earned a bronze medal in the 4x400m relay at the 2014 Central American & Caribbean Games. He heads to Miami with personal bests of 10.65 seconds in the 100m, 21.45 seconds in the 200m and 47.90 seconds in the 400m and joins an incoming men’s class featuring Henri Delauze, Robert Grant, Jaalen Jones and Bailey Vitatoe that was rated 10th by Track & Field News.

Leacock was a member of Trinidad and Tobago’s 4x100m relay team at the 2014 IAAF World Junior Championships. She brings personal bests of 8.03 in the 60m, 11.95 in the 100m and 24.40 in the 200m. She joins a talented group of newcomers on the women’s side that includes freshmen Stefani Kerrison, Amy Taintor and Alexandra Wester are joined by junior transfer Tiffany Okieme.

“We have been focused on adding quality to our sprint program and we feel we have done this with Trishelle and Breon,” Deem said.

The 2015 Miami track and field indoor season is scheduled to begin Jan. 17 at the Nittany Lion Challenge in State College, Pa.
