ACC Legend Rice Honored at UM-UVA Game

The Atlantic Coast Conference and University of Miami Director of Athletics Blake James are proud to announce Miami’s Darius Rice as a member of the 2015 ACC Men’s Basketball Legends Class.

Rice was recognized during the first half of the Miami vs. No. 3 Virginia men’s basketball game on Saturday, Jan. 3. 

Rice, a three-time All-BIG EAST selection, played for the Hurricanes from 2000-2004. He was named to the BIG EAST All-Rookie Team, and earned first team All-District 6 honors a trio of times while at Miami. Rice led the Canes to the 2002 NCAA Tournament and the 2001 NIT. He was a two-time BIG EAST Player of the Week, BIG EAST Rookie of the Week once and was on the Virgin Islands Paradise Jam All-Tournament Team.

The native of Jackson, Miss., led the Canes in scoring four-straight seasons, only one of seven UM players to accomplish the feat. He currently is second in Miami history in games started, third in 3-point field goals made and fourth in both points scored and minutes played for his career. Against No. 11 UConn, Rice scored 43 points, which tied him for third on the all-time BIG EAST single-game scoring list.

In his career, Rice averaged 16.1 points in 116 games played, hitting 40.3 percent from the field, 34.4 percent from three and 77.4 percent from the line for his career.

Rice will be formally honored during the 2015 ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament.
