Rodriguez Earns ACC Player of the Week Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. — University of Miami junior point guard Angel Rodriguez was named Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.

Rodriguez opened his week by scoring 22 points in the final nine minutes at No. 8/7 Florida, draining five second-half three-pointers to help Miami earn an impressive win. Rodriguez also demonstrated his defensive prowess by drawing a charge with three seconds remaining in the game against the Gators.

In 36 minutes in Gainesville, Rodriguez totaled three assists, three steals and two rebounds, finishing 7-for-14 from the field, including five from distance, and 5-7 mark at the free throw line.

Three games later, he was named the Charleston Classic MVP after a trio of strong games in the tournament.

He flirted with a triple-double in a semifinal game against Akron, posting 15 points, nine assists and eight rebounds. His stat line also included two blocked shots and a steal, while shooting 66.7-percent (6-for-9) from the field.

In the championship game against Charlotte, he posted 13 points, five steals and five assists.

The junior from Puerto Rico scored 13 plus points in all four games this week, and despite standing 5-foot-11, blocked five shots over four games. He drained a three-pointer in every game, including five against Florida.

For the week, Rodriguez averaged 16.8 points, 5.3 assists, 3.8 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 1.3 blocks per game. He hit 45.8 percent from the field, including 45.5 percent from three, and 76.5 percent from the line.
