Piotr Lomacki Wins First-Round Match at ITA
TULSA, Okla. – University of Miami freshman Piotr Lomacki won his first round match today at the prestigious Saint Francis ITA Men’s All-American Championships hosted by the University of Tulsa.
“Piotr played better as the match went on and started feeling more comfortable on the court in the last few games of the second set,” said head coach Mario Rincon.
Lomacki, a native of Warsaw, Poland, won in straight sets against the junior Daniel Benarczyk from Indiana University-Bloomington. Lomacki was pushed to the limit in the first set winning in a tiebreak and then won his second set comfortably, completing the match, 7-6(4), 6-3.
“Although he didn’t play his best tennis today, he managed to beat a very experienced and aggressive player,” concluded Rincon. “The competition will only get tougher by the day, and Piotr will have to play better each day.”
Lomacki will now play Alejandro Espejo, a senior from the host University of Tulsa in the second round. The match will begin Tuesday, Sept. 30 at 9:30 a.m. at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla.
