Canes Complete the Four-Game Sweep in Spain

The University of Miami men’s basketball team completed a four-game sweep in Spain, defeating AEC Collblanc Torrassa, 116-64, Thursday night in Barcelona to wrap up the overseas tour.

Deandre Burnett and Sheldon McClellan each notched a team-high 23 points in the win, closely followed by 22 from Ja’Quan Newton and 18 from James Palmer. Manu Lecomte totaled six assists while McClellan added five steals. Tonye Jekiri led the war on the boards with 12 rebounds, while Ivan Cruz Uceda notched a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Miami hit the first bucket of the game, followed by a free throw from AEC, but the Canes took off on a 17-0 run to put the game away early. Miami led 33-11 after the first quarter, and 56-25 at the half.

In four games in Spain, Miami outscored its opponent 89.8 to 65.8 ppg and pulled down nearly twice as many rebounds, 51.8 to 27.0 per night. The Canes hit 51.8 percent from the field, 27.8 percent from three and 62.4 percent at the line. UM also averaged 17.8 assists and 13.3 steals per night.

Individually, four Canes averaged double digits, led by McClellan (20.0), followed by Burnett (14.3), Newton (13.5) and Palmer (11.5). Cruz Uceda averaged 11.0 rebounds per game while Jekiri averaged 8.5 rpg.
