Wimbley Advances to 400m Final at USA Juniors
EUGENE, Ore. – Shakima Wimbley advanced to the women’s 400m final at the USATF Junior Championships.
The freshman placed second in Heat 3 of the women’s 400m preliminaries with a time of 53.50 seconds. Wimbley’s time was the second-fastest out of the 14 competitors that ran in the preliminary round.
The ACC Freshman of the Year ran the fastest preliminary time by a collegiate athlete. Wimbley advances to Sunday’s women’s 400m final that is scheduled for 6:50 p.m. ET.
The 2014 USATF Junior Outdoor Championships will serve as a qualifier for the 2014 IAAF World Junior Championships. Top performers will be part of the American team that will have the unique opportunity to return to Eugene from July 22-27. The 2014 edition of the IAAF World Junior Championships marks the first time the event has ever been held in the United States.
