Meier, Strawley Speak on NACWAA Panel
ATLANTA, Ga. – Head women’s basketball coach Katie Meier and Deputy Director of Athletics/SWA Jennifer Strawley teamed up to speak on a panel at the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators (NACWAA) Institute for Administrative Advancement on Wednesday
Meier and Strawley headed up an interactive discussion on coaches and administrators building success together. Among Meier and Strawley’s key messages: student-athletes and coaches are the lifeblood of an athletic department, and it is imperative for the relationship between the head coach and administrator to be strong.
“We are grateful that Jenn and Katie took time from their busy summer schedules to share strategies for creating a successful coach-administrator relationship with up and coming administrators in the business,” Patti Phillips, CEO of NACWAA said. “We have great respect for coaches and their role in enhancing the student-athlete experience, and we know the administrative role as a teammate, support system and colleague to coaches is a critical part of the success model.”
The duo discussed the qualities of a strong relationship between the two parties, and best practices for how to cultivate those relationships from the perspective of both head coach and administrator. Among those best practices: keep the relationship going in the right direction is to build trust, be present, be a problem solver, and have open and honest communication channels.
“Katie and Jenn are both exceptional leaders and did an outstanding job of communicating best practices and keys to success for our participants,” Phillips said.
