Lin Dunn Inducted into WBB Hall of Fame
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Former University of Miami women’s basketball coach Lin Dunn was among six members inducted into the national Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame on Saturday evening.
Dunn joins Michelle Edwards, Mimi Griffin, Yolanda Griffith, Jasmina Perazic and Charlotte West in the Class of 2014.
Dunn coached the Hurricanes from 1978-87, accumulating 149 wins over the span of her nine years at the helm of the Miami women’s basketball program. Lin guided the Hurricanes to their first-ever ranking in the Associated Press Top 20 in 1985. Following her time in Coral Gables, Dunn coached Purdue University from 1987-96.
In 25 years as a collegiate coach, Dunn amassed a record of 447-257 with seven NCAA Tournament berths including one Final Four appearance.
Following her time in the collegiate ranks, Dunn coached the Portland Power of the ABL before becoming the first head coach and general manager of the WNBA’s Seattle Storm.
Dunn is currently the head coach of the Indiana Fever, whom she guided to the 2012 WNBA Championship.
In 2003 Dunn was inducted into the University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame.
In order to be considered for selection for induction, an individual must meet the following prerequisites:
- Player: Must be retired from the highest level of play for at least five years
- Coach: Must have coached the women’s game at least 20 years
- Referee: Must have officiated the women’s game at least 10 years
- Contributor: Must have significantly impacted the game of women’s basketball
