Monroe Announces @CanesFutbol Signing Class
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami head soccer coach Mary-Frances Monroe announced the program’s newest class of Hurricanes, set to join the team for the 2014 season.
The 11-member class is comprised of nine freshmen and two student-athletes transferring to Miami and eligible to compete this fall.
“We are excited about our incoming class for 2014,” Monroe said. “We have a great mixture of transfer student-athletes and talented freshmen coming in.”
Freshmen Abigail Holmes (Bradenton, Fla.), Veronica Johnson (Ontario, Canada), Nicole Mahin (Massapequa, N.Y.), Erika Miller (Leesport, Pa.), Grace Rapp (Somerset, England), Danielle Savage (Elizabethtown, Pa.), Phallon Tullis-Joyce (Shoreham, N.Y.) and Charlsey Zyne (Miami, Fla.), as well as transfer student-athletes Natalie Moik (Cologne, Germany – VCU) and Katie Bourgeois (Katy, Texas –Alabama), make up the first recruiting class for Monroe and her staff, who enter their second season in Coral Gables.
“We feel that these players are a great fit for our program and believe they have the ability to create a winning environment for us,” Monroe said. “I am excited to get started with the development of the newcomers to become top-notch players both in the ACC, and in the country.”
Abigail Homes – Midfielder – Braden River High School (Bradenton, Fla.)
- Monroe on Holmes: “We are excited to have a Floridian join our recruiting class for 2014. We feel that Abigail is a great addition to our team. She especially fits in with our culture of high expectations. She will compete for time in the midfield or up top. “
Veronica “Ronnie” Johnson – Forward – Burlington Tornados (Ontario, Canada)
- Monroe on Johnson: “Ronnie is a versatile player that will compete to get on the field right away. We are excited about her experience playing at the highest level in Canada and we know she will bring that to the field come August.”
Nicole Mahin – Defender/Midfielder – Massapequa High School (Massapequa, N.Y.)
- Monroe on Mahin: “Nicole will compete for time in the backline or in the midfield this fall. She comes from one of the top clubs in the country and understands what it takes to play in the ACC.”
Erika Miller – Midfielder – Schuylkill Valley High School (Reading, Pa.)
- Monroe on Miller: “Erika is a great addition to our women’s soccer team. We are excited to continue to see her develop into a player that will help us find success. “
Grace Rapp – Forward – Millfield School (Somerset, England)
- Monroe on Rapp: “Grace comes to UM with a ton of experience playing in England. We are excited for her to bring her attacking mentality to the game. We expect Grace to find a lot of success for us up top.”
Danielle Savage – Midfielder – Lower Dauphin High School (Elizabethtown, Pa.)
- Monroe on Savage: “Danielle has the ability to come in and compete for playing time in the attack. Her athleticism and strength will be something that will help her find success.”
Phallon Tullis-Joyce – Goalkeeper – Longwood High School (Shoreham, N.Y.)
- Monroe on Tullis-Joyce: “Phallon will bring a competitive nature to training and to the game. We foresee Phallon developing into a fantastic goalkeeper for us and will compete to be one of the best goalkeepers in the conference. We are excited to watch her grow and take UM to the next level.”
Charlsey Zyne – Goalkeeper – Ransom Everglades (Miami, Fla.)
- Monroe on Zyne: “Charlsey comes from a great program locally to UM. We are excited to have her be a part of our UM family and soccer team. She will help us get better as a team each day in training and will compete for playing time on the field. “
Katie Bourgeois – Forward– Seven Lakes High School / University of Alabama (Katy, Texas)
- Monroe on Bourgeois: “Katie comes to us with college experience already. We expect her to play a big role for us in the attack. She is a great addition to our team and is very different. She has the ability to hold onto the ball for us up top but also the great ability to score goals.”
Natalie Moik – Forward/Defender – Landrat-Lucas / VCU (Cologne, Germany)
- Monroe on Moik: “Natalie is a game-changer. We have high expectations for Natalie to come in and be an impact player for us right away. We are excited to have her bring her international experience playing at the highest level in Germany. We are happy to have her be a part of our family.”
