@MiamiWBB 2014-15 ACC Opponents Announced
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s basketball team will host eight ACC games in 2014-15, including two against teams that finished in the top 10 in North Carolina and national runner-up Notre Dame.
The Canes will have a home-and-home series with Florida State and Virginia Tech, and will host Boston College, Clemson, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, Notre Dame and Virginia. Miami will go on the road to face Duke, Louisville, NC State, Pittsburgh, Syracuse and Wake Forest.
The format for regular-season play is a 16-game ACC schedule. Each team will play two opponents home and away, and will face six opponents at home only and another six on the road only.
“ACC fans will appreciate the fact that the rival partners, those conference members that will play each other home and away each season, are the same for ACC men and women’s basketball,” said Nora Lynn Finch, Senior Associate Commissioner for Women’s Basketball. “For ACC women’s basketball, the only conference opponents who repeat home and away games each season will be the ‘rival partners’. Long-standing rivalries will be honored, and new conference rivalries will be developed with a schedule that is certain to entertain our fans and challenge our teams.”
With the addition of Louisville to the ACC on July 1, the conference will only get stronger next season. Louisville went 33-5 overall and 16-2 in the American Athletic Conference during the 2013-14 season. The Cardinals advanced to the NCAA Championship Regional Final for the second straight year.
In ESPN’s 25 teams to watch in 2014-15, five ACC teams rank among the 25, including three in the Top 10. Notre Dame was predicted at No. 5, Duke at No. 7 and North Carolina at No. 10, while Louisville came in at No. 16 and Syracuse at No. 21
The Hurricanes return nine of their 11 players from the 2013-14 season that saw the Canes finish eighth in the ACC and earn its fifth straight postseason berth.
Head coach Katie Meier and the women’s basketball staff has also reeled in another top recruiting class in 2014. The group includes high school standouts Aisha Edwards, Khaila Prather, Keyanna Harris, Erykah Davenport, junior college transfer Ashley Jones and international player Laura Quevedo. The group of signees will join the Hurricanes in the 2014-15 academic year.
