No. 65 MTennis Looks to Extend Winning Streak

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The No. 65 University of Miami men’s tennis team will be seeking their third-consecutive victory this Saturday as they host Boston University at 11 a.m. at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.

The Hurricanes enter Saturday’s match against the Terriers after a midweek win over Troy University. Miami topped Troy, 5-2, and were paced by senior Diego Soto who earned a point for the Canes beating his opponent, 6-0, 6-0. Soto and his doubles partner Gabriel Flores also came away victorious.

Soto leads the Canes with 10 singles victories, followed by fellow senior Omar Aly and sophomore William Albanese, who have nine apiece. Aly’s singles match win on Wednesday was his fifth straight.

Miami swept the doubles point from Troy, 3-0.

Prior to Boston University’s visit to Coral Gables, the Terriers will face Palm Beach Atlantic on Friday. BU had a scheduled matchup against Florida Tech in Melbourne, but it was cancelled.

The Terriers have lost three of their last four matches after a three-match winning streak. During that streak, Boston University was dominant and did not give up a point in any of the matches against Merrimack, Connecticut and Lafayette, winning each by a score of 7-0.

Two of the Terriers’ most recent losses came against nationally-ranked opponents Harvard (No. 24) and Buffalo (No. 64). BU has combined for only three points in their last three losses. The lone victory was a 5-2 win over Colgate.

BU has 1-4 record on the road.

Miami has experienced a streak of success of late, winning five of six, which began on Feb. 22—two of the wins were versus ranked competition, No. 75 Presbyterian and ACC foe No. 52 Georgia Tech.

Saturday’s match is set to begin at 11 a.m. and is the second of a six-match homestand for the Canes.
