W. Tennis Releases 2014 Spring Schedule

CORAL GABLES, Fla. –The University of Miami women’s tennis team has released its 2014 spring schedule, head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews announced Monday. The schedule features 12 home events and 10 matches against opponents that appeared in the 2013 ITA team rankings.

“I think our schedule is as tough as it’s ever been,” Yaroshuk-Tews said.  “The ACC schedule can’t get more competitive and Baylor is always a really strong out of conference opponent. I’m really excited to see all of the improvements we’ve made this fall and see them in action this spring.”

The defending ACC Champions will open up the 2014 season on Friday, Jan. 17 when they host the Miami Spring Invite. The Hurricanes will host Texas, Vanderbilt and Memphis over the three-day event.

The following weekend, Miami will welcome USF, LSU and Ohio State to town for the ITA National Indoor Kickoff Weekend held at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. If the Canes can win both matches in this tournament, the team will qualify for ITA National Team Indoors.

Before potentially heading to ITA National Team Indoors on Feb. 7, the Hurricanes will host Florida Gulf Coast in a dual match at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center on Thursday, Jan. 30 at 5 p.m.

The team will then travel to Charlottesville, Va., for ITA National Team Indoors, held at the Boar’s Head Tennis Club. The three-day tournament features of 16 of the best teams in the country that will certainly prepare the Hurricanes for ACC play.

The following Friday, Feb. 21, the Hurricanes will open up ACC play against Maryland at home at 12 p.m. as a part of a four-match home stand that includes matchups against Notre Dame (Feb. 23), Boston College (Feb. 28) and Georgia Tech (Mar. 2).

The team will then hit the road for two road ACC matches, the first coming against Pittsburgh on Feb. 7. The Hurricanes will face former assistant coach Alex Santos, who is now at the helm of the women’s tennis program at Pittsburgh. Two days later, Miami will visit Raleigh, N.C., to take on the Wolfpack of NC State.

The Canes will then have a six-day period with no matches, before returning home on Mar. 15 for contests against Baylor (Mar. 15), Princeton (Mar. 19) and Syracuse (Mar. 21).

Following that span of three home matches, the Hurricanes will play five consecutive matches on the road against Wake Forest (Mar. 23), North Carolina (April 5), Duke (April 6), Florida State (April 11) and Clemson (April 13).

The Hurricanes will then close out the regular season at home against Virginia Tech on April 18 and Virginia on April 20 before heading to the ACC Championships in Cary, N.C., on April 24. The tournament begins on Thursday with a round of 16 and concludes with the final on Sunday.
