Algee, Fridell Pace Swimming on Day One
ATLANTA – University of Miami swimmers Angela Algee and My Fridell carried the Miami Hurricanes on the first day of competition at the Georgia Tech Invitational.
Algee and Fridell qualified for the “A” final of the 50 free after strong showings in morning preliminaries. Algee, who has impressed in the first competitive events of her collegiate career, earned the final spot with a 10th-place finish in preliminaries (23.82). Fridell touched the wall just ahead of Algee, finishing ninth during the morning heat with a time of 23.78.
Algee shaved her time to 23.80 to finish eighth in the finals, while Fridell came in 10th with a time of 24.08 seconds.
Miami’s 200 free relay team continued the positive momentum deep into the final round. The Hurricane entry, comprised of Algee, Fridell, senior captain Katherine Nicholson and junior Amy Wiley, finished in fourth place with a time of 1:35.12.
The Hurricanes ended the night on a positive note, earning a fifth-place finish in the 400 Medley Relay. Algee and Fridell, alongside Wiley and sophomore Tiffany Sudarma, touched the wall in a time of 3:48.52.
Miami will continue its run at the Georgia Tech Invitational Saturday. Preliminaries are scheduled for 10 a.m., with finals set for 6 p.m.
