Miami XC Shines at UCF Invitational

ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Miami cross country program wrapped its final meet before the ACC Championships, competing at the UCF Black & Gold Invitational.

The Hurricanes had 19 student-athletes run at the UCF Cross Country Course, 10 in the women’s 6K and nine in the men’s 8K, and two earned Top 10 finishes.

Lindsi Arrington led the Miami women, finishing second in the 6K with a time of 21:50.36. Brooke Dovell and Gabrielle Hesslau were Miami’s next two finishers on the women’s side.

“Lindsi did exactly what we wanted her to do,” Miami distance coach Damon Griffiths said. “She got stronger each kilometer and put herself in position to win with a kilometer to go.”

On the men’s side, the Canes were led by JaCee Jarnagin. The senior placed ninth with a time of 26:38.03. Fellow seniors Jonas Frenzel (26:58.93) and Luke Fontaine (27:05.43) finished inside the Top 20.

“They did some good things early,” Griffiths said. We needed to be more consistent as a group to reach today’s goal”

The Hurricanes are back in action in two weeks, traveling to Kernersville, N.C., for the ACC Championships. Griffiths believes his runners are in a position to succeed on Nov. 1.

“I think we are in a good place heading into the championship season,” Griffiths said. “At this point, it’s all about doing the little things.”
