W. Tennis Set to Host Miami Invite

CORAL GABLES, Fla. –The University of Miami women’s tennis team hosts the Miami Invite on Friday, Oct. 11 through Sunday, Oct. 13 at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
Teams traveling to Coral Gables for the tournament include Auburn, Barry, Ole Miss and – Purdue. The 32-player tournament will consist of two flights (Orange and Green) for both singles and doubles.
“We have a lot of solid teams coming to town and we’re going to be playing a lot of tennis this weekend,” head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews said. “We’re excited to see the girls continue to progress as the fall moves along.”
The tournament will get underway with doubles beginning on Friday at 9 a.m. Following two rounds of doubles, one round of singles will be played on Friday.
In the orange doubles flight, Monique Albuquerque and Clementina Riobueno will open play against Erin Stephens and Iris Verboven of Ole Miss. The 27th-ranked doubles duo comes into the tournament with a 4-2 fall record and will have an opportunity to play against some highly ranked doubles teams.
“We have some spots in the draw where we have some opportunities,” Yaroshuk-Tews said. “There are some doubles teams that are coming in ranked higher than our doubles, so there’s an opportunity to improve in the rankings as well—so I think the girls are ready to go.”
Also in the orange doubles flight is Brittany Dubins and Stephanie Wagner, who will see the second-seeded Jackie Kasler and Reka Pfeifler of Auburn University in the first round. The Tigers’ duo comes into the match ranked No. 23 in the country.
Melissa Bolivar and Kelsey Laurente will begin play as the top-seeded team in the green doubles flight, and will compete in the opening round against Akemi Maehama and Cristina Valladeres from Barry University.
In the same flight are Hurricanes Deborah Suarez and Lina Lileikite. In the first round of doubles they will see Nicole Robinson and Claudia Escribens of Purdue.
The eight Hurricanes are split up four-and-four between the two singles flights. In the orange bracket, Albuquerque will play against Purdue’s Lynda Xepoleas, fourth-seeded and 69th-ranked Riobueno will face Purdue’s Daniela Vidal, third-seeded and 54th-ranked Laurente will play Ole Miss’ Erin Stephens, and second-seeded and 52nd-ranked Wagner will play Purdue’s Nicole Robinson.
In the green singles flight is Deborah Suarez, Lina Lileikite, Melissa Bolivar, and Brittany Dubins—with the latter three all making their fall debuts. Coming in as the top seed, No. 84 Lileikite will play Ole Miss’ Allie Robbins, Suarez will face Auburn’s Reka Muller, Bolivar will play against Purdue’s Marija Djokovic, and Dubins will open against Purdue’s Claudia Escribens.
“We have quite a few players that are really starting to play some great tennis,” Yaroshuk-Tews said. “This weekend it’s just going to come down to competing well, and competing every day for every point. That’s a focus that we’ve had with some of these girls, and we just hope that they bring that mentality to the courts this weekend.”
