S&D Continues Strong Run in Gainesville

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Miami swimming and diving teams wrapped up another successful day of competition at the fourth annual All-Florida Invitational Saturday.

The Hurricanes carried their momentum from Friday’s action into Saturday’s final rounds, placing two swimmers in the top five finishes in the day’s third event. Sophomore My Fridell (55.73, third) and freshman Angela Algee (56.38, fifth) earned points for the Hurricanes in the 100 Butterfly.

Freshman Cameron Davis, who finished the 500 Freestyle in seventh place Friday night, took second place in the “B” final of the 200 Free in a time of 1:56.37. Junior Amy Wiley also impressed, capturing seventh in the “A” final of the 100 Breaststroke (1:08.10), while freshman Julia Schippert (1:08.89) took fourth in the “B” final of the same event.

The Hurricanes had three top finishes in the “B” final of the 100 Backstroke: sophomore Tiffany Sudarma (1:00.63) took fourth, senior Katherine Nicholson (1:01.42) captured sixth, and freshman Paige Anderson (1:02.19) finished in eighth place.

Miami divers continued their impressive run, as Kara McCormack and Thea Vock captured second and third in 1-meter preliminaries, while Zac Nees, Sam Dorman and Tanner Wilfong took the top three finishes in the morning’s 3-meter prelims.

Miami’s entry in the 800 Free Relay, comprised of Fridell, Algee, Davis and Nicholson, ended the day’s action on a high note with a sixth-place finish in the event (7:53.30).

The Hurricanes enter Sunday’s finals in fourth place with a score of 279 points.
