S&D Releases 2013-14 Season Schedule

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Head swimming coach Andy Kershaw released the Miami Hurricanes’ 2013-14 schedule Thursday.

In addition to two team invites and various dates of national competition, the schedule features five conference meets and three matchups with nonconference teams. The Hurricanes will open their regular-season slate with the All-Florida Invite (Sept. 27-29) in Gainesville, Fla., and travel to Raleigh, N.C., for their first conference tri-meet of the year on Nov. 8.

“I’m super excited. I can’t wait to get the team together for the first time, which happens this weekend,” Kershaw said. “I’m really looking forward to that, and then we have our first meet only a month later, which is hard to believe. It’ll be great to see our competition and measure ourselves up against other teams.”

After the new year, the Hurricanes will compete with four opponents in a two-day meet in Blacksburg, Va. (Jan. 18-19), before ending their regular season with a trip to Tallahassee, Fla., for a dual meet with rival Florida State (Feb. 1).

“The ACC is definitely one of the top swimming conferences,” Kershaw added. “We are competing against individuals and teams that will prepare us for NCAA’s and ACC’s. We’re competing against people we’re going to see at those end of the year competitions.”

Kershaw reinforced his excitement to enter one of college swimming’s most well-regarded conferences.

“There are young coaches, veteran coaches, new teams coming in,” he said. “I hope there’s going to be a lot of energy and excitement, because I know there is from our end. With all the ‘new’ that is here, along with the more established programs and veterans, there will be a great mix of healthy competition.”

Miami used a prolific run at the conference championships to propel itself into the postseason, and will once again travel north for the 2014 ACC Championships beginning Feb. 19 in Greensboro, N.C. Boosted by their late run of momentum, Miami finished 20th at the 2013 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships.

The Hurricanes will open zone qualifying ahead of the 2014 NCAA Championships on March 10.

“You want to be your best when the best are at their best, which is come NCAA and ACC tournament time,” Kershaw said. “Having said that, we’re at the top of the pyramid here and we want to win every meet. There’s no secret in that, as long as the focus remains on having the greatest season possible.”
