Women's Golf Adds Georgia Transfer Walsh
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Kailey Walsh, a 2012-13 SEC All-Freshman performer, has transferred to the University of Miami to play golf for the Hurricanes, head coach Patti Rizzo announced Monday.
Walsh, a native of Boca Raton, Fla., spent the 2012-13 season with the Georgia Bulldogs, participating in 10 tournaments. She sported a 76.10 scoring average during fall competition and averaged 76.11 during the spring. She recorded a season-best 3-under 69 in the final round of the season-opening Cougar Classic en route to her best 54-hole score of the season (4-over 220).
“Kailey is going to be a very positive addition to our women’s golf team this fall, along with our two new recruits, Dani Darquera and Delfina Acosta,” Rizzo said. “John (Koskinen) and I are very excited for the future of the women’s golf team and we believe we will be very competitive next year.”
She was the Bulldogs’ top individual performer in consecutive events at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate (t22nd) and the LSU Golf Classic (t5th). Following her performance at LSU, she was named SEC Freshman of the Week.
Walsh entered her freshman season ranked No. 12 in the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com women’s rankings. She was ranked No. 22 and No. 23 nationally among Class of 2012 golfers by Polo and Golfweek, respectively. She was a 2012 American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) HP Scholastic All-American Honor Roll selection and competed in both the 2010 U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship and 2011 U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship.
She played six years of high school varsity golf (6th-11th grades) before not competing as a senior. Walsh completed her junior and senior years of high school at Laurel Springs College Prep in Ojai, Calif., after attending Saint Andrews School in Boca Raton as a freshman and sophomore.
She recorded six top-7 finishes in two seasons of competing in AJGA events, culminating with third-place showings at the 2011 Cleveland HealthCare Foundation Junior and the 2011 AJGA Florida Junior. At the 110th North & South Amateur, she shot 215 to finish fourth among 112 competitors in stroke-play qualifying before advancing to the quarterfinal round of match play.
