Cuculiza, Ocampo Collect ACC Academic Honors
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Miami Hurricanes junior Carina Cuculiza and freshman Christina Ocampo were named to the 2013 All-ACC Academic Women’s Golf Team released Friday by the league.
Both Cuculiza and Ocampo received All-ACC Academic honors for the first time and were among 22 golfers honored for their academic excellence by the ACC.
Cuculiza, a finance major, appeared in 10 of Miami’s 12 tournaments in 2012-13, finishing the season fourth on the team with a 77.45 scoring average. The Managua, Nicaragua, native posted a pair of top-25 finishes at the Florida Challenge and Sir Pizza Terrapin Challenge.
Ocampo, an international finance major, was one of three Canes to compete in all tournaments, while appearing in the starting lineup 11 times. The Delray Beach, Fla., product finished third on the team with a 76.81 scoring average in 32 rounds. She posted two top-15 finishes, including an eighth-place showing at the Sir Pizza Terrapin Challenge.
Both Cuculiza and Ocampo participated at the 2013 NCAA West Regional, Miami’s first NCAA postseason trip since 2005.
All nine of the ACC schools who sponsor women’s golf were represented on this year’s All-ACC Academic team. Duke led with five individuals, while NC State had four honorees. Florida State, Maryland, Miami, North Carolina and Wake Forest each placed two honorees on the team. Boston College and Virginia each had one selection.
To be eligible for consideration for the All-ACC Academic team, a student-athlete – regardless of classification – must have earned a 3.00 GPA for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative GPA during her academic career.
