Track Set for Final Meets Before NCAAs
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami track and field program will have student-athletes competing all over the country with the same goal in mind: qualify for the NCAA Championships.
Miami will send student-athletes to Georgia and Michigan this weekend to compete in three different meets. The runners, hurdlers, jumpers and relay teams will travel to Atlanta to compete in the Georgia Tech Invitational. Miami’s throwers will be in Allendale, Mich., participating in a pair of meets at Grand Valley State University.
There will be several athletes to watch at the Georgia Tech Invitational. Middle distance runners Taneisha Cordell and Alaine Tate will be running the 800m, while redshirt freshman Kelsey Balkwill and junior Jasmyne King are scheduled to compete in the 400m dash.
Junior Bassim El-Sabawi is scheduled to compete in both the men’s 100m and 200m dashes. Standout hurdler Christian Cook will run the men’s 110m high hurdles and the men’s 400m intermediate hurdles.
Freshman jumper Dakota Dailey-Harris will compete in the women’s high jump, while freshman John-Patrick Friday will compete in the men’s high jump, triple jump and long jump. Innocent Jacob and Tim Richardson will also jump for Miami at the GT Invite.
Miami will put a pair of talented women’s relay teams on display at the Georgia Tech Invitational. The Canes are entered in both the 4x100m relay and the 4x400m relay.
At Grand Valley State, Miami’s throwers will compete in a pair of meets on consecutive days.
Isaiah Simmons will try to improve on his already impressive marks in men’s shot put (18.89m) and discus (54.41m). Women’s throwers Lea Johnson and Amber Monroe will compete in the women’s hammer throw and women’s discus, respectively.
