Canes Finish The Season Top 10 In The Polls

Led by second year head coach Jim Larrañaga, the 2012-13 Miami Hurricanes transcended all preseason expectations.

The Canes finished the season ranked No. 5 in the AP and No. 10 in the USA TODAY Coaches poll. Miami’s meteoric rise in the polls began after defeating then-No. 1 Duke handily at the BankUnited Center. The victory proved to be historic for the program.

After being unranked the week of January 14, Miami was subsequently ranked No. 25, No. 14, No. 8 and No. 3. According to research by the AP, Miami was the sixth school to ascend from unranked to the top five in four weeks or less since the AP Top 25 begin in 1989-90. After garnering a number two seed for the NCAA tournament, the team continued its historic ways, advancing to the Sweet 16 for the second time in program history.

Miami started the season unranked and was picked to finish fourth in the ACC by the coaches and fifth by the media.

The Canes recorded a school record 29 wins this season, including a 13-0 start to ACC play and finishing with a 15-3 record. That mark was the best start in the ACC since the 1999 season. The team also won the first regular season and ACC Tournament title in school history.
