The Game
With a 4-0 record in the ACC, No. 25 University of Miami will face off against No. 1 Duke at 7 p.m. on Jan. 23 in the BankUnited Center in Coral Gables.
The SeriesMiami is 3-15 in the all-time series against Duke, which dates back to the 1962-63 season. The Canes are 2-6 against the Blue Devils at home, 0-2 at neutral sites and 1-7 on the road. Miami last faced Duke on Feb. 5, 2012 in a game that saw an overtime Hurricanes victory, 78-74.

Home Court AdvantageMiami has shot better than 45 percent from the field in its six of its seven home games, shooting a season-high 59.0 percent vs. Jacksonville. Miami was consistent vs. Detroit hitting 14-27 shots (51.9 %) in both the first and second halves. The Canes have shot better than 60 percent in two home second halves, with 63.6 percent vs. SU and 62.5 percent vs. JU.
Canes at Home in the ACCMiami is on a four-game home ACC winning streak, dating back to last season. The Canes have defeated Wake Forest, Florida State, Boston College and Maryland at the BankUnited Center in that span. Scott in the ClutchDurand Scott has led the team in scoring in the final five minutes of a game for the past three seasons, and is second this year with 2.2 points per game, behind Trey McKinney Jones’ 2.6 ppg. As a rookie, Scott averaged 2.6 ppg in the final five minutes of regulation, as a sophomore he improved to 2.9 ppg and set a career mark of 3.0 ppg his junior year.
Who Scored First?Miami is 4-0 when Kenny Kadji is the first Cane to score, and 3-0 when Durand Scott scores Miami’s first points in the game. UM is 2-0 after Rion Brown or Shane Larkin score first, 1-1 with Trey McKinney Jones and 1-2 with Julian Gamble.
Last year’s Win at Cameron Indoor Stadium On Feb. 5, 2012, Miami earned its first victory ever at Cameron Indoor Stadium and just its second win over No. 7/5 Duke since joining the ACC for the 2004-05 season. The win over Duke was Miami’s highest ranked ACC win in school history. Miami outrebounded the Blue Devils 48-43 and outscored them 38-26 in the paint. The Canes also forced Duke into 14 turnovers. Reggie Johnson was named the ACC Player of the Week after he notched 27 points, 12 rebounds and a steal in 35 minutes against No. 7/5 Duke. Following the upset of Duke, Miami received a vote in the Feb. 6 AP Poll.

Approaching Milestone Career NumberDurand Scott has scored 1,396 points and grabbed 504 rebounds in 112 games for the Canes. With four more points, he will become one of just 12 Hurricanes to score 1,400 career points at Miami.
Larranaga Year Two In just his second year with the Canes, Coach L has transformed the play of the Miami basketball program. After 16 games last year, Miami was 10-6 allowing a 42.4 percent opponent FG percentage and a 34.2 percent mark from distance. The Canes allowed 67.6 points per game and UM was being outrebounded 33.9-34.6. This season, Miami is allowing opponents a 37.5 percent clip from the field, 31.1 percent from distance, and just 58.4 points per game. After four games in ACC play, the Canes were 1-3, compared to this season’s 4-0 mark. The Canes have cut 15.5 points off of opponents’ scoring totals and .750 percent off opponents’ shooting percentage. UM has dropped its turnovers from 14.8 to 9.8 and forced opponents into 0.7 more each outing.
Canes in the PollsAt No. 25, Miami is ranked in the AP Poll for the first time since Jan. 11, 2010, when the Canes were No. 23. UM has been listed in national polls seven weeks this season, as of Jan. 21. Miami was listed on both the AP and USA TODAY preseason polls for the first time since the 2008-09 season, when UM was ranked 17 and 16, respectively.
Miami vs. the ACC in the Coach L eraMiami has defeated nine of their 11 ACC opponents in the Coach Larranaga era, including four on their home court – Georgia Tech, Boston College, Duke and North Carolina. In his first season at UM, Coach Larranaga and the Canes defeated eight of their 11 ACC opponents at least once. Miami beat Boston College in both meetings, and downed five teams in their sole matchup – Clemson, Duke, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech and Wake Forest. UM split games with Maryland and Florida State, but lost to North Carolina (twice), NC State (twice) and Virginia. So far in year two, Miami is 4-0 in the ACC with road wins at Georgia Tech, UNC and Boston College.
