Miami to Compete in ACC Championships

April 20, 2012

CORAL GABLES, Fla.—The University of Miami rowing team travels to Clemson, S.C., this weekend where they will compete in the annual ACC Championship race. The Canes will compete in three events against Boston College, Duke, Clemson, North Carolina and Virginia, all battling for the coveted title of 2012 ACC Champion.

“The ACC championship is a highlight of the season and the team is really looking forward to it,” said head coach Andrew Carter. “The field is pretty deep this year and everyone knows that they need to bring their best race.”

This year’s championship is hosted by Clemson University and takes place on Lake Hartwell. The day begins with a Novice 4+ exhibition at 8 a.m., and the championship races are scheduled to kick off afterward. Miami is seeded No. 5 for the 1V and No. 6 for the other races.

After the races is the traditional awards ceremony, where the ACC Championship trophy is awarded along with the All-ACC, ACC Crew-of-the-Year and Player-of-the-Year honors.

Last year, the Canes came in fourth place behind Virginia, Clemson and Duke. The University of Virginia was last year’s winner. The Cavaliers have won the ACC Championship 11 times in 12 years.
