Srdjan Muskatirovic(1994-95)
Coral Gables, Fla. – Winnerof the European Junior Championship, Belgrade, Yugoslavia native SrdjanMuskatirovic came to the University of Miami as a former No. 1 in the 18 andunder rankings and top Yugoslavian player. In his two seasons on the CoralGables campus, Muskatirovic helped the Canes claim their second and thirdconsecutive Big East title.
As a freshman in 1993-94, Muskatirovic went 17-4 in singlesplay and 15-6 in doubles competition partnering primarily with WolframKnobling. In singles play, Muskatirovic defeated every ranked player that hewas matched up against (6-0), was crowned and the “A” Flight Champion of theBig East Championships and advanced to the quarterfinals of the 1994 NCAA tournament.For his singles play, Muskatirovic became the first Hurricane to be named tothe All-American team since Conny Falk in 1989. In doubles competition,Muskatirovic and his primary partner Knobling claimed the “A” Flightchampionship title of the Big East Championships.
Muskatirovic continued his success during his sophomoreseason as he went 19-7 in singles play and 23-7 in doubles competition. As theNo. 7 ranked collegiate player and former No. 1, Muskatirovic claimed theSkyTel Clay Court Championship -where four of his five victories came againsttop-20 players. Muskatirovic became the first Hurricane to win the title. Hisbiggest win of the season in doubles competition came against the then rankedNo. 4 team of Rob Chess and Peter Ayers of Duke. For his success in doubles,Muskatirovic was named to the All-American team.
