The Game
Miami (1-1) begins a three-game homestand on Friday, Nov. 16 with an in-state matchup with Jacksonville, followed by games against Detroit (Nov. 24) and No. 21/22 Michigan State (Nov. 28).
The Series
Miami is 26-6 against Jacksonville in the all-time series, which dates back to the 1957-58 campaign. The Canes have won the past three meetings with a pair of wins in Coral Gables and one in Jacksonville. Miami last faced JU on Nov. 12, 2010, defeating the Dolphins, 89-77, in Coral Gables.

Larranaga nine wins from 500Head coach Jim Larranaga is in his 29th season as a head coach, posting a 491-347 overall record. Entering the 2012-13 season, Coach L was tied for 20th on the list of winningest active Division-I head coaches. Currently 17 active D-I coaches have 500 wins. See complete list in bio on page six of the notes. Larranaga’s 100th win came when Bowling Green defeated Kent State in 1991. His other milestone wins came while at George Mason. He 200th victory was vs. Northeastern in 1997, 300th was vs. East Carolina in 2003 and win No. 400 came against William & Mary in 2008.
Weight Room GainsUM has made great strides in the weight room since the arrival of Coach Jim Larranaga and strength & conditioning coach Jim Krumpos. When Krumpos first arrived at Miami in the spring of 2011, the team bench pressed an average of 231 pounds. By the fall of 2011, that number jumped to 257 lbs, and in the fall of 2012, the Canes are benching 270. In the vertical jump, the players averaged 32.4 inches in the spring of 2011, 34.4 inches in the fall of 2011 and are now at 35 inches. The team also averages 270 lbs. in the front squat. Some impressive individual numbers include: Bishop Daniels gained six inches on his vertical jump; Kenny Kadji lost 20 pounds and gained strength; Erik Swoope benches 340 pounds.
Johnson Averaging a Double-DoubleSenior Reggie Johnson is averaging 14.0 points and 10.5 rebounds after the first two games of the season. He has pulled down double-digit rebounds in each game with 11 vs. Stetson and 10 at FGCU.
Miami at FGCU RecapFor the second-straight game, starters for Miami were Shane Larkin, Rion Brown, Trey McKinney Jones, Kenny Kadji and Reggie Johnson … Tonye Jekiri made his first appearance as a Hurricane in the first half against Florida Gulf Coast. Jekiri grabbed an offensive rebound then was fouled on the putback. Jekiri made the second of his two free throws for his first points in a Miami uniform … Reggie Johnson grabbed10 rebounds at FGCU, racking up double-digit boards in two-straight games following his 11 against Stetson on Nov. 9. Last season had back-to-back double-digit rebound nights vs. Florida State (10) and Valparaiso (11) … Shane Larkin drained a career-high-tying four threes in the game, scoring a team-high 14 points. He also hit four from distance last year at Purdue on Nov. 29, 2011.
Home Sweet HomeThe Hurricanes are 1-0 at the BankUnited Center in 2012-13 and are 108-47 overall in the BUC. The Hurricanes have notched double-digit home wins at the BankUnited in five-straight seasons and eight times in nine full seasons calling the arena home.
Canes in the PollsMiami is currently receiving nine votes in the AP Top 25. The Canes received votes in the AP and USA TODAY polls to start the season, and were No. 24 in the Blue Ribbon Yearbook preseason Top 25 poll. Miami was listed on both the AP and USA TODAY preseason polls for the first time since the 2008-09 season, when Miami was ranked 17 and 16, respectively. In 2005-06 Miami was receiving votes in both preseason polls, with 16 from the AP and six in the USA TODAY listing. UM was picked fourth by the coaches and fifth by the media in the ACC preseason polls.
